DES PLAINES, Ill. — Workers at the clothier where suits for President Barack Obama are made say they’ll rally because the factory’s creditor is trying to liquidate the company. Employees at Hartmarx Corp. in the Chicago suburb of Des Plaines say they’ll rally on Monday because 500 local jobs are at stake. Chicago-based Hartmarx is the nation’s largest maker of men’s tailored clothing. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy Jan. 23. It employs about 3,000 workers represented by the Service Employees International Union. Wells Fargo & Co. is trying to liquidate the company. The bank has said it sympathizes with Hartmarx employees. The Illinois treasurer has threatened to pull state business from Wells Fargo unless it stops the liquidation. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
