MACOMB, Ill.  — Western Illinois University President Al Goldfarb is telling university administrators to cut spending next year by 3.5 percent to prepare for upcoming cuts in state funding. Gov. Pat Quinn introduced a budget this week that would make deep cuts in education spending as part of a plan to reduce the state’s budget deficit. If the budget is passed, Western’s state appropriation for the next fiscal year would be cut by $3.7 million to $56.2 million. Goldfarb told the vice presidents of each of Western’s divisions on Thursday to work the next few weeks on where to make cuts. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press
