A witness says Rod Blagojevich met with U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. one day before the then-governor was arrested on corruption charges and they discussed the congressman’s hope to be named to a U.S. Senate seat. Blagojevich’s former chief of staff, John Harris testified Monday at the ousted governor’s corruption trial that as the meeting broke up, Blagojevich said he was glad that someone was thinking about him. Harris testified earlier that Blagojevich had mentioned a third party had visited him on behalf of Jackson and spoken of the possibility of a $1.5 million campaign contribution for the governor. Defense attorneys were preparing to cross-examine Harris. Blagojevich has pleaded not guilty to charges including that he schemed to sell or trade President Barack Obama’s former Senate seat.
