CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago police Superintendent Jody Weis says seven police officers have been taken off the street in connection with the alleged beating of a suspect.
After attending an awards ceremony Monday, Weis told WBBM-AM allegations against the officers are serious. He added that is why the department has ‘stripped seven people of their police powers."
Weis on Friday announced a sergeant was being investigated by the Independent Police Review Board on the possible beating of a suspect while in custody. He said the incident allegedly occurred earlier this week. The action against the six other officers was announced Monday.
As he did Friday, Weis refused to give any details about the incident, noting officials of the Independent Police Review Authority were handling the probe.
