Five people were shot, three fatally, within the last two days, including a police-involved shooting. A 32-year-old Evanston man who was in a dispute with his landlord pulled out a knife, refused to drop it when ordered by Evanston police, and was fatally shot Sunday afternoon, according to Evanston police. At about 4:20 p.m. in the 1800 block of Church Street, police responded to the confrontation between Desrick York and his landlord. When York lunged at the officers instead of dropping the weapon, the officers fired, killing the man, said Evanston Police Cmdr. Tom Guenther. Later on Sunday on the South Side, a man survived being shot 10 times in the 9100 block of South Oglesby Avenue. The man argued with three other people shortly after 9 p.m., then shots rang out. He sustained four shots in the buttocks and six in the left leg, police said, and was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital. No one is in custody. On the West Side nearly two hours later, an 18-year-old woman and her 16-year-old brother were shot in an apparent gang-related incident, police said. At about 10:50 p.m. on Sunday in the 1800 block of North St. Louis Avenue, the woman and her brother were sitting in a vehicle when someone approached the vehicle and shot several times inside, striking the woman in the head and the boy in the arm. The woman died early Monday at Stroger Hospital, and an arrest was made in connection with the shooting. Charges are pending, police said. Earlier today, a 21-year-old man was fatally shot in the 7800 block of South Essex Avenue. Shortly after 1 a.m., Deveus Johnson argued with another man before shots rang out. One bullet struck Johnson in the chest. He died of the wound about an hour later at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said.
