University of Illinois President B. Joseph White says he backs calls for an independent investigation of admissions practices. Some state lawmakers have asked Gov. Pat Quinn to launch an investigation after news reports that politically connected applicants sometimes enroll at the university despite low test scores and other weaknesses. Quinn’s office has said he’ll address admissions at the state-funded school later this week.
