The 14-year-old boy who successfully passed himself off as a Chicago police officer in the presence of other officers for several hours in February has broken the law again. In a suit and tie Friday and posing as a potential buyer, he allegedly stole a luxury car from a South Side dealership and rode around for a few hours before leading police in a chase that ended in a crash, police said. A salesperson at a dealership in the 7200 block of South Western Avenue offered the boy a test drive in a 1990 black Lexus sedan the teen was interested in, but the car’s battery was dead. After the battery was charged, the salesperson was to accompany the boy on the ride but first needed to return the charger. When the salesperson returned, the teen and the car were gone, police said. Police said while the boy was on the joyride, officers noticed the car swerve into their lane and that it did not have license plates. When they attempted to pull the driver over, he didn’t stop and led them on a chase near 95th and State Street before crashing into a light pole. He fled and was later arrested. He was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, driving without a license, driving without insurance, driving without registration, criminal trespass and leaving the scene of a crash. The teen, who will not be identified because he’s a juvenile, is scheduled to appear back in Juvenile Court on May 28 about both the impersonation and stolen vehicle cases. ______ Copyright 2009 Chicago Defender.
