A mother was charged Friday with felony reckless conduct Friday for leaving her newborn baby in a relatives basement for several hours on Tuesday after giving birth. Ashley Henry, 18, hid the pregnancy from her family and confessed to giving birth in the basement of a family home in the 700 block of North Central Park Avenue. Hours later, relatives noticed Henry bleeding and took her to the hospital. Doctors discovered she had given birth, police said. The teen’s grandmother discovered the baby in the basement shortly after midnight on Wednesday. The baby is in critical condition, police said. Henry is expected to appear in bond court Friday.
