PECATONICA, Ill. — Federal stimulus money’s starting to flow to Illinois water projects. The Illinois governor’s office says the northern Illinois communities of Pecatonica, Rockford, Dixon and LaMoille are among the first to be awarded funds set aside for water works. About 750 sewer projects that would cost $3 billion are competing for the state’s share of $180 million in federal dollars for sewage and water-quality projects. About 900 Illinois projects worth $1.5 billion are vying for $80 million for drinking water. Pecatonica will receive about $6 million to help upgrade its wastewater treatment plant. Dixon gets about $4 million to address radium and arsenic issues. LaMoille lands around $200,000 for its public water system.
