CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Five Illinois universities and a hospital will divide $2.5 million in federal stimulus funding for biomedical research and training. U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin says in a Friday news release that the National Institutes of Health grants will go to the University of Illinois campuses in Urbana-Champaign and Chicago, the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, Loyola University and Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Research money includes $678,000 for the hospital to study susceptibility to food allergies and about $612,000 for the University of Chicago to explore how war and natural disasters affect drinking problems.
Illinois’ campus in Urbana Champaign is getting two grants, including about $230,000 for flu-related study.
