State Rep. Deborah Graham, D-78th Dist., has been tapped by Mayor Richard Daley to replace disgraced Ald. Isaac Carothers in the city’s 29th Ward. Carothers stepped down as alderman last month after pleading guilty to federal bribery charges, which included an illegal scheme where he received $40,000 in home improvements. The 43-year-old Graham also has a post in the Chicago Department of Planning and Development, but said she would leave that position to become alderman. Graham has been in Springfield since 2003 and is on several committees, including the Renewable Energy committee where she serves as chair. Her appointment must be approved by the City Council.
