BENTON, Ill. — A southern Illinois teenager has died two weeks after being accidentally dragged by a car during a gathering with friends in a Rend Lake parking lot. Eighteen-year-old Jennifer Kearney died Wednesday at a St. Louis hospital after being removed from life support. Her brother-in-law, Shaun Dubs, says Kearney suffered massive crushing injuries when she was hit by a car Aug. 9 at Rend Lake. Doctors had amputated one of her legs to keep an infection from spreading. She was six months pregnant, and her fetus already had died from the injuries. Kearney’s body will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held later. A benefit is scheduled for Saturday behind the Huck’s convenience story in Benton to help raise money for Kearney’s funeral expenses. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
