MOMBASA, Kenya — A Maersk shipping official says the American captain that U.S. Navy snipers rescued from Somali pirates will reunite with his crew Wednesday in the Kenyan port of Mombasa. The crew has hailed Capt. Richard Phillips of the Maersk Alabama as a hero who saved them by offering himself up as a hostage. U.S. Navy SEALs killed three pirates Sunday night in a daring attack that freed Phillips after a five-day standoff. Maersk official Gordan van Hook had no further details about Phillips’ upcoming reunion with his crew. A senior U.S. defense official said Phillips was being debriefed Tuesday on the USS Bainbridge. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
