DINWIDDIE, Va. (AP) — Services are scheduled in Dinwiddie for William C. Morgan Jr., a pioneering member of the National Black Farmers Association. Morgan died Friday in Richmond. He was 81. At the request of Morgan’s family, the association’s founder and president, John W. Boyd Jr., will deliver a eulogy Thursday at Mount Olive Branch Baptist Church. Boyd said Morgan had had a difficult time getting federal farm loans. He said Morgan was an early supporter of the National Black Farmers Association and its efforts to overcome years of officially sanctioned discrimination aimed at African-American farmers. Morgan began his long affiliation with farming plowing fields behind a mule. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press.
