Family and supporters of death row inmate Troy Anthony Davis planned to gather Saturday evening for the service at St. Philip Monumental AME Church.
Davis is scheduled to die by lethal injection Wednesday for the 1989 slaying of Mark MacPhail, an off-duty Savannah police officer who was shot while rushing to help a homeless man being attacked.
Davis insists he’s innocent and has avoided execution three times since 2007. A federal judge ruled last year that Davis didn’t have enough evidence to clear his name, despite claims his lawyers had made for years.
Now advocates are urging Georgia’s pardons board to grant Davis clemency.
