ROCKFORD, Ill. — Several Rockford public schools have been locked down following the shooting of a student outside of one of the buildings. Police Sgt. Andre Brass says a male student was shot in the leg around 9 a.m. Monday outside the Auburn High School freshman campus. The student, a freshman, was taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Brass says a red truck or sport utility vehicle pulled up near the student and words were exchanged before shots were fired from the vehicle. Nobody has been taken into custody, so as a precaution, both Auburn campuses and nearby McIntosh Elementary School were put on lockdown. A phone message left for the principal at the Auburn freshman campus was not immediately returned. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
