The family of a Simeon Career Academy student who was fatally shot Friday night hopes a $2,000 reward will bring his killer to justice. Gregory Robinson, 14, was caught in a hail of gunfire while riding in a relative’s car in the 1100 block of West 110th Place, police said. While in the back seat of the vehicle with two cousins on the way home from a Simeon basketball game, at about 10:45, gunfire broke out from an unidentified person riding a bike. One of the bullets, believed to be from an assault rifle, struck Robinson in the back, according to witness accounts. The freshman, who shielded his younger cousins from the volley of bullets, died less than an hour later at Advocate Christ Hospital in suburban Oak Lawn. Robinson, who lived in south suburban Hazel Crest and had high hopes of becoming a professional basketball player, attended Simeon to continue a family tradition. Police said neither Robinson, nor the other three people in the vehicle, were the intended targets. No one is in custody, and grief counselors were at the school Monday. ______ Copyright 2009 Chicago Defender. All rights reserved.
