A $2,000 reward has been in offered for information leading up to the arrest of who is responsible for an apparent gang-related shooting on March 17 that struck a 7-year-old girl in the head. Desiree Sanders was riding on her scooter near her grandmother’s home in the 8000 block of South Manistee Avenue when an unidentified gunman came out of a nearby alley and started shooting at two males who ran past the girl, police said. Sanders was struck in the head and taken to the University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital. Bullet fragments remain in her head and may lose eyesight in one eye, according to relatives. She was a first-grade student at Bradwell School on 77th Street and Burnham Avenue. Police said an off-duty cop witnessed the shooting and pursued the vehicle that fled the scene. Two teens were subsequently arrested but later released by police. Copyright 2010 Chicago Defender
