The Rev. Jesse Jackson told the Defender that neither he, nor anyone on his staff, has had contact with Gov. Rod Blagojevich or the governor’s staff in months. The head of the Rainbow/PUSH Coalition and father to Cong. Jesse Jackson Jr., D-2nd, denies making any political deals on his son’s behalf to secure the President-elect Barack Obama’s vacant Senate seat.
“It is dangerously untrue,” Rev. Jackson told the Defender. “I have had no contact whatsoever with any of his people in months.”
According to a source, Rev. Jackson is “Individual D” mentioned in the 76-page federal criminal complaint filed against Blagojevich and his Chief of Staff John Harris.
In the complaint, “Individual D” spoke to an aide to the governor and agreed to raise $500,000 to $1 million in campaign funds. And in return, the governor would appoint “Senate Candidate 5” to the Senate seat. Cong. Jackson has acknowledged being the unnamed “Senate Candidate 5.”
