President nominates Coleman for Dist. Court Bench

President Obama nominated Justice Sharon Johnson Coleman to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

President Obama nominated Justice Sharon Johnson Coleman to serve on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Coleman was admitted to practice law in 1984 after receiving her degree from the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis. She became a judge in 1996 and has served in the Juvenile and Law divisions. She has served as Assistant State’s Attorney in Cook County, an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District of Illinois and as a Deputy State’s Attorney and Bureau Chief for the Public Interest Bureau of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office before spending time on the bench in the Circuit Court of Cook County. Coleman currently sits on the Illinois Appellate Court in Chicago, a post she’s held since 2008.   Copyright 2010 Chicago Defender
