CHICAGO (AP) — Organizers of Chicago’s protest against corporate greed are making efforts at racial inclusion.

The Occupy Chicago organizers call the effort Occupy the ‘Hood. Organizer Kelvin Ho says they are canvassing neighborhoods on Chicago’s largely minority South Side, talking about their movement. The goal is to increase participation among minorities.

Ho is an American whose parents were born in Taiwan. He says issues of race have come up during the group’s general assembly meetings. At first, most of the people moderating the meetings were white men. But participants noted that, and now the group tries to have people of color and women moderate meetings.

Occupy Chicago was inspired by the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York. Many U.S. cities saw marches over the weekend, including Springfield and Peoria in Illinois.
