No one is in custody following the fatal beating Thursday of a 16-year-old Fenger High School student.

Derrion Albert was pummeled to death by several other youths in a vacant lot adjacent to the Agape Community Center in the 300 block of West 111th Street at about 3 p.m., said Chicago police spokesperson JoAnn Taylor.

The boy –– along with at least three others –– were kicked, punched and hit with sticks by the unidentified teens. The others survived the attack. The incident was captured on a nearby surveillance camera. Police are reviewing the footage and are interviewing several potential witnesses, police said.

Albert was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. He died three hours later, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.

Police said the 16-year-old had no known gang affiliation and a motive hasn’t been determined. Albert’s death also hasn’t been linked to the apparent gang-related shooting outside of Fenger Thursday morning, police said.

“They are separate investigations at this time. Nothing has been connected,” Taylor said.
