CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Police Board reports more than 40 people have applied to become the city’s next police superintendent. Police Board president Demetrius Carney said Tuesday many of the candidates seeking to succeed former Superintendent Jody Weis are current members of the department.
Carney says of the candidates that come from outside the department, many are current or former leaders of large organizations. The deadline for applying for the position passed Monday. The police board will interview the candidates for superintendent and present three finalists to Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel, who takes office May 16. Weis, who gained the post in 2008, resigned earlier this year as his contract came to an end. Copyright 2011 The Associated Press.
