CHICAGO (AP) — Just who is in the race for mayor of Chicago will soon become clear.
Monday is the last day candidates can file nominating petitions at the Chicago Board of Election to secure a spot on the February ballot.
Candidates need 12,500 signatures to get on the ballot for the race to succeed the retiring Mayor Richard Daley. Former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun, U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, former Chicago school board president Gery Chico and Chicago City Clerk Miguel del Valle have already submitted their petitions.
One major candidate who has yet to submit his signatures is state Sen. James Meeks. Meeks has announced his candidacy and has said he plans to submit his signatures on Monday.
