CHICAGO (AP) — After taking a major blow from this week’s blizzard, Metra, the Chicago-area commuter train authority, says it is edging back toward normal operations — but still has a way to go. Five of Metra’s 11 routes were completely shut down all day Wednesday and three others closed by early evening. Metra spokesman Tom Miller says it expects to be running regular weekday service on seven lines Thursday, but will have reduced service on four others. Miller says the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe line and three Union Pacific lines, North, Northwest and West, will see less service than a normal weekday, but more service than Wednesday. Regular weekday service should be in place on Metra’s Milwaukee District north and west, the North Central, Heritage Corridor, Southwest, Rock Island and Electric lines.
