Emanuel appeared Saturday at a North Side station where police say recently installed cameras helped solve a string of robberies.
Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy says cameras at another station helped officers identify a suspect in the murder of a woman at a downtown hotel.
The Chicago Transit Authority plans to add 1,500 cameras to its system of 1,500 existing ones by the end of the year. About 75 percent of the new cameras have been installed.
Police say that from June to Oct. 9, images pulled from CTA cameras have helped in the arrest of at least 37 people.
Experts say Chicago has the country’s most extensive and integrated camera network.
