Matteson to Honor Kendall Gill at Cook County’s Largest Independence Day Concert Featuring Kenny Lattimore and Leela James

Sheila Chalmers-Currin, Mayor of Matteson, Illinois, and the Matteson Village Board, along with U.S. Congresswoman Robin Kelly, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, and philanthropist Early Walker, are proud to announce the annual summer music festival, the largest Independence Day gathering in Cook County. The Village of Matteson will begin the holiday weekend with its summer rollout of “Concerts at The Hall.”

This year, the executive committee of the Concert at the Hall, along with U.S. Congresswoman Robin Kelly and a wide range of Cook County elected officials and 4000 attendees, will pause and honor Chicago Hoops Legend Kendall Gill by bestowing him the Concert at the Hall 2025 Person of the Year Award. Gill is being honored for his constant contributions to countless communities throughout Cook County and the State of Illinois.

” Kendall Gill is considered by many of us in government as a premier Pillar of our combined communities. His selfless actions and generosity to the youth of Cook County have been well noted and regarded by numerous organizations. Kendall has contributed much to the upward mobility of our state’s youth as anyone.” says Mayor Chamers-Currin.

“While we are looking forward to celebrating the holiday with music, fun and fellowship, we cannot ignore the heroic accomplishments of law enforcement who put their lives on the line daily. So, we not only want to enjoy music in a peaceful manner but also want to assist in helping to promote and sustain peace,” says Mayor Chalmers-Currin.

Artists such as the ever-popular R&B Superstars Kenny Lattimore and Leela James are set to grace the stage with some of their greatest hits! Other featured artists include Maurice Mahon and the Delivery Point Band. The concert will take place on the lawn of the Village Hall and will begin promptly at 5 p.m. Residents are welcome to bring a lawn chair and enjoy an evening of endless joy, vendors, a beautiful beer garden, and fireworks! All members of the public are welcome to join.
