CHICAGO (AP) — A Cook County judge denied bail to a 21-year-old woman charged with first-degree murder in the death of man she suspected of giving her a sexually transmitted disease. Ashley Nicole Steele is accused of shooting 40-year-old Derrick Gray of Chicago. Assistant State’s Attorney Samara Spector says Steele was visiting Gray’s home on Feb. 4 when a woman arrived and told her Gray infected her with herpes. Spector said Wednesday the woman showed Steele text messages in which Gray apologized. According to Spector, Steele took a gun from a bedroom table and threatened Gray. When the man tried to flee, he was shot through a door. She then shot him two more times. Spector said Steele later discarded the gun and her clothes. Steele’s attorney says she suffers from bipolar disorder. Copyright 2011 The Associated Press.
