Kelly wins key Dem nomination, Miller waits

State Rep. David E. Miller is in a dead heat with Raja Krishnamoorthi and Clinton Krislov to win the Democratic nomination for state comptroller in the November General Election. Miller, who represents the 29th District, put his hat in the ring after the current comptroller, Dan Hynes, made a gubernatorial bid to represent the party on the ballot. Miller was tapped to serve as Assistant Majority Leader in the Illinois House, and heads the Illinois Legislative Southland Caucus. Miller has also been a dentist for the last 20 years.   As Alexi Giannoulias picks up the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate, Robin Kelly will vie for his vacated seat as state treasurer. Kelly, current chief-of-staff to the Illinois State Treasurer, won the Democratic nod over Justin Oberman. Prior to coming to the treasurer’s office as the first Black female chief-of-staff for a statewide elected office, Kelly had just been elected to a third term as state representative of the 38th District in the south suburbs.   Before her tenure in the Illinois General Assembly, she spent 13 years as the Director of Community Affairs in the Village of Matteson. The treasurer’s office manages approximately $17 billion in state and local funds and administers programs to promote the fiscal health of residents.
