SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — About $3.1 million in federal money is headed to Illinois to help reduce obesity and smoking. The Illinois Department of Public Health announced the funding on Wednesday, saying in a news release that it will go to help reduce obesity and smoking, increase physical activity and improve nutrition. The award comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The department says it will use the money to issue grants to organizations like the Illinois Head Start Association and the Active Transportation Alliance.
