The Illinois Department of Labor says teenagers and their families should be aware of state laws to protect children in the workplace. The state department released the guidelines as teens leave school and seek jobs over the summer. State labor department director Catherine Shannon says there are restrictions on the number of hours teens can work and the type of work that they can do. The Illinois Child Labor Law regulates work for those younger than 16 years old.
