Illinois officials hope to raise awareness of human trafficking with a special outreach day.

State officials say Illinois Rescue and Restore Human Trafficking Outreach Day will be Saturday. The Illinois Department of Human Services says the goal is to raise awareness about human trafficking and help rescue victims. The event was announced Monday at a news conference in Chicago.

The department says hundreds of volunteers statewide will hang thousands of posters Saturday. The posters will advertise a human trafficking hot line and encourage residents to "rescue and restore" human trafficking victims.

State officials estimate between 16,000 and 25,000 American women and girls are victims of commercial sexual exploitation in Chicago each year.
