ROANOKE, Ill. — The village board of the central Illinois community of Roanoke is slated to discuss disbanding its police department. Mayor Bob Huschen says the item was put on Monday’s agenda at the suggestion of village attorney Scott Brunton. If the plan goes through, the village of about 2,000 residents would rely on the Woodford County Sheriff’s Department. Huschen says the village can get police coverage cheaper from the county. He says the discussion has nothing to do with the recent legal troubles of police Chief Mike Brockway. Brockway has been on paid leave since he was arrested on May 21 after a report of an alleged domestic dispute involving his wife. He has not been charged. The board voted to create its own police department in 2007. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
