Ill. utility takes precautions during heat

ComEd officials are telling everyone what’s probably all too obvious — that it’s getting hot out there.

ComEd officials are telling everyone what’s probably all too obvious — that it’s getting hot out there.

Temperatures will stay high all week, so ComEd is taking precautions to ensure its network continues to work properly.

Measures include keeping extra crews on standby to deal with any outages. Electricity failures during stifling heat can pose a danger if it knocks out air conditioning for too long.

ComEd officials also have suggestions for how customers can keep their homes cool and save energy.

They note 40 percent of unwanted heat comes through windows, so they recommend people keep blinds and curtains closed whenever they can.

ComEd provides service to around 3.8 million customers across northern Illinois.
