WAUKEGAN, Ill. — Health officials in northeastern Illinois say they’ll extend the time period that swine flu vaccinations are available. The Lake County Health Department’s executive director says the illness is still a threat and the public needs to be reminded about the importance of getting the vaccine. The department says swine flu shots will be available through the end of February. They were originally only scheduled through the end of this month. Public health officials say the best way to prevent flu is to get vaccinated, wash hands and stay home if sick. So far more than 80 people in Illinois have died and more than 2,500 people have been hospitalized for swine flu. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press.
