Hip hop artists to rally for Zimbabwe

Renowned hip hop artists from South Africa and Zimbabwe will be appearing June 21 at a concert for free and fair elections in Zimbabwe, and against the recent outbreaks of xenophobia that left shocking and violent images of African against African.

MAKE SOME NOISE! will star the controversial poet Comrade Fatso with Chabvondoka, Zimbabwe’s leading protest band blending poetry, hip hop, chimurenga and jazz. Herbie Dangerous, a Harare born hip hop/ragga MC based in Jozi, Outspoken, a rising voice in the Zimbabwe poetry scene, and Godobori, a powerful poet who chants revolutionary Shona poetry are also on the bill. The show takes place at House of Nsako, Joburg’s popular, new live music venue.

Meanwhile, Nobel Peace Prize laureate and retired Anglican Archbishop of Cape Town Desmond Tutu has called for the resignation of Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe. "Mugabe began so well more than 20 years ago. We all had such high hopes…but his regime has turned into a horrendous nightmare. He should stand down," Archbishop Tutu said, according to Independent Catholic News. (NNPA)
