CHICAGO (AP) — State Sen. Rickey Hendon says he’s running for mayor of Chicago, and he promises to reopen Meigs Field on his first day in office if he’s elected.
Hendon announced his candidacy Wednesday during an appearance on Fox News Chicago.
He’s the latest candidate to express interest in the job since longtime Chicago Mayor Richard Daley announced he won’t be running for re-election.
Daley drew criticism in 2003 when he shut down Meigs Field overnight so the small lakefront airport could be turned into a park.
Hendon says reopening Meigs would be part of his plan to bring more business to Chicago. He also says he’d support bringing a riverboat casino to the city.
