OAK FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Another public hearing is planned on Cook County’s plan to close a hospital south of Chicago and convert it to a primary care health center. The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board hearing will be April 18 at 10 a.m. at Bremen Township Hall in Markham. The hearing was requested by the National Nurses Organizing Committee, which represents 1,200 Cook County nurses. Cook County Health and Hospitals System contends closing Oak Forest Hospital would reduce costs and increase primary care. Nurses say they are worried about their patients and their jobs. In Illinois, hospital closures must be approved by the state’s health facilities board. In March, the board said it intended to deny the Oak Forest closure.
