CHICAGO (AP) — The attorney for Sam Hurd says the former Chicago Bears wide receiver has been released on bond from a federal lockup.

The Chicago Bears cut Hurd on Friday, two days after he was arrested for allegedly telling an undercover agent he was interested in buying five to 10 kilograms of cocaine and 1,000 pounds of marijuana per week to distribute in the Chicago area. Earlier Friday a federal judge set Hurd’s bond at $100,000.

Hurd’s defense attorney, Brett Greenfield, also said Friday that Hurd had never sold drugs to other NFL players, hoping to put any rumors to rest as the player prepares to fight the federal drug charges. The 26-year-old Hurd is expected to be tried in Texas, where federal prosecutors filed a criminal complaint earlier this week.
