KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama will be the headliner at the NAACP convention in Kansas City in July. The NAACP had invited President Barack Obama to address the convention, which will be held July 10-15. But the president will be in Kansas City on July 8 — two days before the convention — for a fundraiser for Democratic Senate candidate Robin Carnahan. Benjamin Todd Jealous, NAACP president and chief executive officer, told The Kansas City Star Thursday that the group is honored to host the first lady. Jealous says Michelle Obama is an inspiration to the NAACP’s membership. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press.
