The chairman of the Illinois Finance Authority says he was astonished at charges Gov. Rod Blagojevich threatened to withhold assistance from the authority in the sale of Wrigley Field. William Brandt told a legislative hearing Thursday that he and his staff had "no knowledge of this, and I think that if we did, the anger would have been more than palpable." He says they "are all astonished to have read what we read." An FBI affidavit accompanying federal charges against Blagojevich said he threatened to withhold the aid unless Chicago Tribune editorial writers were fired.
