CHICAGO (AP) — About the only thing federal workers marching in downtown Chicago say they’re sure about is that there will be a government shutdown.

Besides that, there were only questions for the 100 or so workers who carried signs and chanted slogans outside a federal building on Thursday during the lunch hour.

For starters, they say they have not been told by their bosses whether they will be told to come into work because their jobs are considered essential. They have no idea how long a shutdown would last or whether the money they’ve set aside in recent weeks will be enough.

One Environmental Protection Agency accountant, Julie Sidlo, says she’s sent an email to her mortgage company asking if she can delay her next payment, but hasn’t heard back.
