ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — Ethiopia’s health minister says the country’s first cases of swine flu have been confirmed in two students.
Health Minister Tewdros Adhanom says the students returned to Ethiopia June 13 after taking part in an exchange program in the U.S. He declined Friday to name the students but said they were treated and are in good health.
The World Health Organization declared swine flu a pandemic last week. As of Friday, it said more than 44,000 cases had been reported worldwide, with 180 deaths, mostly in Mexico and the United States.
