SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan will challenge Illinois to "think differently" about education as he leads a discussion about school improvement in Chicago. Duncan, formerly the Chicago Public Schools CEO, will speak Friday at a breakfast hosted by Advance Illinois at a downtown hotel. Duncan will lead a conversation about what is necessary to improve public schools, including what part President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus program will play. Also speaking will be the co-founders of Advance Illinois, former Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar and former U.S. Commerce Secretary William Daley, along with the education advocacy group’s executive director, Robin Steans (STAYNZ’). ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press.
