Durbin told a news conference on Friday that automaker CEOs didn’t help themselves this week when they visited Washington, seeking the money. He said some questions about their lifestyles and how much money they make shows how different corporate officials are from families who are losing their savings and workers losing their jobs. But he suggested that a bailout might still be possible if the industry shows Congress how it might help to dig the automakers out from under their financial woes.
