Doctors at Chicago’s Stroger Hospital have joined a union under an agreement with Cook County’s health system board. Doctors Council SEIU announced the agreement Wednesday. The union is affiliated with the Service Employees International Union. It now represents more than 500 doctors in the Cook County public system. About 250 doctors are covered by the agreement signed Monday with the Cook County Health and Hospitals System Board. The deal covers attending physicians, dentists, psychologists and podiatrists at the 464-bed hospital. The Illinois Labor Relations Board is expected to certify the union within a few weeks. Stroger Hospital, formerly known as Cook County Hospital, is part of the city’s health care safety net and serves thousands of low-income patients. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press.
