Daley appoints new fire commissioner

Chicago Mayor Richard Daley has chosen a third generation Chicago firefighter to be the city’s new fire commissioner. Daley on Wednesday named Robert Hoff to replace John Brooks, who resigned after published reports that a sexual harassment complaint against him was allegedly swept under the rug. In making the announcement, Daley called the 54-year-old Hoff an "excellent administrator and a great leader." Chicago Firefighters Union Local 2 president Tom Ryan says Hoff is a highly trained, highly decorated firefighter who has the respect of the rank-and-file because of his experience and leadership qualities. When Hoff was five years old, his battalion chief father, 44-year-old Thomas Hoff, died during a building collapse on Chicago’s South Side. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press.
