CLINTON, Ill. — Tourism officials in DeWitt County say their visitors’ center will only be open weekends this summer because of funding cuts. Instead of the center, officials say they’ll put up a sign in the city of Clinton directing tourists to the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Bureau. Officials say that grant money that once kept the visitors’ center open all week is no longer available. Clinton Mayor Ed Wollet says he’s disappointed with the move. He says there should be a visitor center open. But Clinton finance commissioner Tom Edmunds says the city does have a new tourism consultant who is in charge of attracting visitors. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press, The Pantagraph.
