On June 17, the Chicago Transit Authority will be offering up to half off of parking fees at its park and ride lots. The discount is in conjunction with Dump the Pump Day, to encourage drivers to give public transportation a try. The event is a national one, sponsored by American Public Transportation Association. Studies show a Chicagoan who chooses public transportation over car ownership saves an average of $11,298 a year. “The CTA’s Park & Ride lots combine and cost-effective travel option,” said CTA President Richard L. Rodriguez.  “By choosing public transit, commuters help to reduce emissions and improve air quality, as well as lessen traffic congestion.” Most participating parking lots will be reduced from $4 to $2 for 12 hours of parking with the exception of the Purple Line Linden lot which operates on a token system that can’t be changed to participate in this event.  The Rosemont and Forest Park Blue Line will be reduced from $5 to $3 on Dump the Pump Day.  These reductions will be available all day June 17.     Park & Ride locations are listed on CTA’s system map and on the CTA Web site, www.transitchicago.com.
