A Chicago Transit Authority bus union says it has no plans to strike over job cuts. Union spokesman A.C. McLean says some members of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 241 want a vote on authorizing strikes. But he says union leaders are advising against it. He says they also don’t want drivers slowing buses in protest. Union representatives and the nation’s second largest transit agency are locked in a dispute over a CTA decision earlier this month to lay off more than 1,000 employees and reduce service on more than 100 bus routes and seven rapid transit rail lines. The union is pushing the CTA to rehire workers, but the CTA says budgetary shortfalls prevent it from bringing workers back unless the union agrees to salary cuts or other concessions.
